In Amoeba proteus the transplantation of a nucleus engaged in DNA synthesis into a G2-phase (after DNA synthesis) cell results in inhibition of such synthesis. When the nucleus of a G2 cell is transplanted into an S-phase (period of DNA synthesis) cell, such a nucleus may begin to synthesize DNA.
