Previous methods for measuring the range and temporal course of adaptation to thermal stimuli are difficult to use. A technique requiring subjects to adjust the temperature of the stimulator to maintain a just-de-tectable sensation is described. Complete adaptation occurs to temperatures within the range between 28° and 37.5° C in about 25 minutes.
