Two-Stage Paired-Associate Learning and Eye Movements

Eye movements of 20 male students were photographed continuously throughout the course of their learning verbal paired-associates. As learning progressed, proportionately less and less time was spent scanning the response when the stimulus and response were presented together. These findings are interpreted as supporting a two-stage theory of verbal learning.
