International and Governmental Organizations
U.N. FAO Fisheries Department
Information-packed online hub of the FAO's fisheries effort. Includes a "Fisheries Information Center" with links to a variety of fisheries databases, copious literature on management, socioeconomic, and other dimensions of fisheries, the FAO Code of Conduct For Responsible Fisheries, the full text of the FAO's biennial report on the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture, and much more. Highly recommended.
Oceans and Law of the Sea
From the U.N. Division of Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea, wealth of documents, Internet links, and other resources related to the implementation of the U.N.'s LOS Convention.
Marine and Coastal Programme
Site of the U.N.'s UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre program dealing with marine environments and their conservation.
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission
A commission of UNESCO that provides U.N. member states a mechanism for global cooperation in the study of the oceans. Includes OceanPortal, a directory of Web sites related to ocean data and information.
National Marine Fisheries Service
Handsome, useful site of the NOAA service includes information on sustainable fisheries and conserving marine habitat, as well as links to the sites of NOAA's eight fisheries management councils.
European Commission Dicterorate-General for Fisheries
Includes a nice collection of fisheries-related links and detailed information on the European Union's Common Fisheries Policy.
Scientific, Advocacy, and Industry Groups
American Fisheries Society
The oldest and largest professional society representing fisheries scientists.
Marine Conservation Biology Institute
A scientific and conservation advocacy organization. Site includes an extensive collection of Web resources related to marine conservation biology.
Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission
Consortium's Web site includes headquaters of its Fisheries Economics Data Program, featuring links of interest to fisheries economists.
The National Fisheries Institute
Web site of the "leading trade association for the fish and seafood industry" includes discussion of key environmental and fisheries management issues from an industry perspective.
UBC Fisheries Centre
Center based at the University of British Columbia focuses on and promotes the multidisciplinary study of fisheries. Includes links to a variety of research and modeling programs such as Ecopath.
The Sea Around Us Project
Partnership of the UBC Fisheries Centre and the Pew Charitable Trusts focused on protection of marine ecosystems and sustainable fisheries.
The Center for SeaChange,
Organization focused on policy solutions to protect the oceans, by promoting the recommendations of the Pew Oceans Commission and the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy.

Nicely designed database of links to fisheries-related Web sites, from Netfisco Foundation, a nonprofit fisheries consulting group based in the Netherlands.

Online edition of a 1999 report from the Ocean Studies Board of the National Research Council.
Marine Biodiversity: Patterns, Threats and Conservation Needs
