Supplemental Figure 1. Plot of d234U vs. 230Th/238U activity for Barbados corals older than 80 ka and dated by TIMS. Data are represented as 2s error ellipses: yellow, red, and black are from this study and ref. 12, other colors are from ref. 6 and references given in ref. 6 and are coded by terrace. Note that the half-lives used to calculate the data in Web Table 1 are new (38) -- to plot the new data with the previous data required using the old half lives. The new half-lives affect the 230Th ages only minimally and lower the d234U value by roughly 3 per mil; data from Web Table 1 thus plot ~3 per mil higher in initial d234U value than is listed in the table. Samples in yellow have concordant 230Th and 231Pa ages, samples in red have discordant 230Th and 231Pa ages, and samples in black were not dated by 231Pa methods.

Those data colored by terrace are grouped by generally increasing terrace elevation [nomenclature as in refs. in 9], from left to right: Worthing terrace (red), Ventnor terrace (blue), Rendezvous Hill terrace (green), Kendall Hill, Golden Grove and Durants terraces (red, the next highest in elevation above the Rendezvous Hill terrace), WAN-B, WAN-E and WAN-C (blue), Thorpe, Kingsland-Aberdare and Husbands terraces (green), Adam's Castle and St. Davids terraces (red) and Hill View (VA-1, blue). The curved lines are contours of initial d234U value and lines with steep positive slope are contours of 230Th age. The 150 initial-d234U contour (tan) corresponds to the modern marine d234U value. Dashed lines are 234U-230Th addition lines from model in ref. 6.
