Correction:

(i) In fig. S2, the control periods for Runs 3 and 4 were inadvertently interchanged, so that their heat content changes, which were actually 6.31 and 5.88, were incorrectly listed as 7.15 and 5.02.

(ii) In the second paragraph of the supporting text, the fifth word has been corrected to "decadal" rather than "annual."
