- Movie 1 File SoilVis.avi
A Fly through of a virtual soil ecosystem. The physical habitat of soil is recreated
using a 3D fractal algorithm coded using C and OpenGLTM - created by Alasdair Houston in SIMBOS, University of Abertay. The heterogeneity of the physical
ecosystem can be altered by changing the fractal dimension, and seeding virtual
bacteria. The fly-through shows a random distribution of respiring bacteria in a
heterogeneous habitat, from the perspective of a bacterial predator.
- Movie 2 File AbertayHiResCT.meg
The microstructure of soil captured at 20-micrometer resolution, using the
GeoSoilEnviro lab of the Consortium for Advanced Radiation Sources (GSE-CARS),
Argonne National Laboratory, at Chicago University, captured by Prof Iain Young
(Abertay University) & Dr Mark Rivers (University of Chicago). A sequence of
connected slices is shown.
