Science Policy

This week, we offer several online features designed to provide a scientific perspective on the upcoming U.S. presidential election. In the Candidates' Words To gauge the science priorities of U.S. presidential candidates George W. Bush and Albert Gore, Science Online presents the candidates' responses to a series of questions on topics ranging from science education to global warming to the human genome. The responses are available for viewing as an Adobe PDF file, and will be published in the print version of Science on 13 October 2000. A companion editorial by Donald Kennedy, Editor-in-Chief of Science, is also available for download. This editorial will also be published in the 13 Oct 2000 issue of Science. Webcast From 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. EDT on Thursday, 5 October 2000, readers were able to tune into a live Webcast of a forum at AAAS Headquarters (sponsored by the Washington Science Policy Alliance), during which representatives of the Gore and Bush campaigns discussed, and responded to questions about, the candidates' science policies.
