The cerebral cortex of the human brain is a sheet of about 10billion neurons divided into discrete subdivisions or areasthat process particular aspects of sensation, movement, andcognition. Recent evidence has begun to transform our understandingof how cortical areas form, make specific connections with otherbrain regions, develop unique processing networks, and adaptto changes in inputs.
