Larval Dispersal and Species Longevity in Lower Tertiary Gastropods

THOR A. HANSEN 1

1 Department of Geology and Geophysics, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut 06520

Species longevity in Lower Tertiary volutids (Gastropoda) is primarily controlled by a combination of developmental type and environmental tolerance. Larval dispersal may be an important factor in molluskan evolutionary rates.
