Ice Sandwich: Functional Semipermeable Membrane

At a temperature slightly below the freezing point of an aqueous solution, the functions of a nearly perfect semipermeable membrane can be simulated with two nonselective filters with ice sandwiched between them. Potential applications include production of potable water from brackish sources or of highly purified water from tap water.
