Puromycin: Effect on Messenger RNA Synthesis and -Galactosidase Formation in Escherichia coli 15T-
Bruce H. Sells 1

Incubation of Escherichia coli 15T-in the presence of puromycininhibits the inducible formation of -galactosidase to a greaterextent than it inhibits protein synthesis. In E. coli 33.00-galactosidase formation is also more sensitive to the presenceof puromycin than is protein synthesis. In the presence of glycerol(but not in its absence) puromycin prevents the production ofmessenger RNA for -galactosidase, presumably as a result ofcatabolite repression.
