The enucleated rodent eye can be mounted for study in vitro, in a chamber that contains electrodes suitably placed to enable the severed post-ganglionic nerves to the iris to be stimulated. The technique provides a simple quantitative method for the study of drugs which act at the parasympathetic neuro-effector junction.
