A letter takes issue with the claim by some opponents of embryonic stem cell research that adult stem cells provide treatments for 65 or more human diseases, arguing that most such treatments have not undergone actual clinical trials, that FDA-approved adult stem cell treatments are available for only nine of the cited conditions, and that those who cite "the falsehood that adult stem cell treatments are already in general use" for 65 conditions "mislead laypeople and cruelly deceive patients."
