Democratizing data science in Japan

Kyoto University is undoubtedly looking to the future.  It is anticipating that all of its graduate students, across all disciplines, will at some point encounter data science in their workplace. It has therefore initiated an education effort called the Center for Innovative Research and Education in Data Science. Founded in 2017 within the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences, this center has created and implemented a new curriculum that will train all students, independent of their major, in the basics of data science, including artificial intelligence and big data. The university hopes that this new initiative will better prepare its graduates for entering the workforce of tomorrow.
